How to Cancel Free Trials Before You Get Charged
Cancel free trials before the first charge: reminder workflow, Apple/Google/Amazon billing tips, and StopScribe cancel guides.
November and December are peak free-trial season — streaming bundles, shopping memberships, fitness apps, and “first month free” software all convert to paid plans if you forget. This guide is a practical checklist so you cancel before the first charge, with StopScribe links for the exact cancel path.
Use StopScribe when you are ready to cancel. Official cancel steps for 50+ services (web, iPhone, Android) live at stopscribe.com. Start from the directory or jump into a specific guide below.
Before you start any trial
- Write down the end date. Count the trial length from the signup confirmation email (not from memory). Put a phone reminder 48 hours earlier.
- Note who bills you. Many trials charge through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or a card on file at the company’s site — cancel on the same platform that started the trial.
- Screenshot the terms. Keep the trial length, price after trial, and cancel instructions from the signup page.
How to cancel before you get charged
- Open the service’s account or subscriptions page (or Apple / Google / Amazon subscriptions if that is where it renews).
- Follow the provider’s cancel or “turn off auto-renew” steps. Prefer the official path over random third-party “cancel for me” upsells.
- Save the confirmation email or screenshot the cancellation date and “ends on” / “renews on” line.
- Check your bank/credit-card app the day after the trial was supposed to end to confirm no charge posted.
Canceling usually stops the next renewal. It does not always mean an immediate refund if a charge already posted — that depends on the company. Act before the renewal timestamp in your account.
Platform cancels (do these when the trial billed through an app store)
- Apple: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions — see also StopScribe: Apple subscriptions.
- Google Play: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions.
- Amazon: Account → Memberships and subscriptions (Prime trials, channels, Kindle, etc.).

After you cancel — keep the money
